newborn care
Most expectant parents are extremely busy during their third trimester finishing their preparations for baby and it is easy to overlook the simplicity of a Newborn Care class. Once the baby is born, however, the simple acts of care can seem not so straight-forward. It is during those early days when the knowledge and skills learnt in the Newborn Care class are truly beneficial! The Newborn Care class provides careful instruction and practice of all the care essentials to help build confidence before parents prepare to meet and care for baby.
Upon completion of the Newborn Care class, you will...
- be familiar with newborn appearance characteristics
- understand how to diaper, bathe, and dress physical needs
- understand the signs of colic, the different types of crying and techniques for soothing the baby
- understand infant sleep patterns, sleep safety and SIDS prevention
- understand how to cope with family adjustment and how life changes with baby
- understand when to call your paediatrician
- understand the value of setting up support
- be able to create a postpartum plan
The Newborn Care class meets once for 3 hours, and can be taken individually or as part of the Comprehensive Package. I recommend moms and partners to attend the Newborn Care class together. I also recommend you complete these classes prior to 36 weeks of pregnancy.
